The Natural Line

The art of the Atelier Gahr evolves from the performance of the rational world as from our observation of the mysterious, endlessly rich nature.

Materials like stainless steel, brass, bronze or rusted steel are brought into shape by flexing, slicing, welding and hammering on them. Dents and edges are reminders of these violent acts. That's why our works express tension and relaxation simultaneously.

The casual form of the weld embodies the forms found in nature. The study of the unrestricted lines which can be found in nature has shaped the artistic understanding of the Gahr family. It has become a mode of expression which can be generally applied, whether it be office furniture, fountains or wall art;

The natural line symbolizes freedom, poetry, diversity, environment, movement and power.

We, the Austrian artist family Gahr, make extraordinary with the welding torch. In our own use of forms highly imaginative metal artworks have been created for over 39 years.

Our atelier and the gallery is located in a former dairy in the city center of the small town Bischofshofen. We are surrounded by a marvellous landscape with mountains and a waterfall.
